Stiles Falls is located at Camp Alta Mons in Shawsville. The trail to the falls, 3.2 miles round trip out and back, is considered to be moderate.
When camp is in session, in June and July, you cannot access this trail. Check the camp website before setting out.
The first leg of your hike is on a sunny gravel road - follow the signs to Stiles Falls as you make your way through the camp from the parking area.
You will reach the trailhead after .5 miles or so, and continue into the woods.
Deer have been spotted here, and an array of wildflowers.
The trail follows a creek. You will cross the stream three times - part of the adventure, with the potential for wet feet.
An enchanting sight comes into view as you follow the sound of water.
Behold, Stiles Falls in all its glory! Swim in the pool at the base of the 40-foot waterfall.
Quite a spectacle of nature, and a veritable natural wonder.
It is a slightly strenuous hike at the end to scramble over rocks, or admire the waterfall from a distance.
You can even discover this natural wonder with your canine companion at your side.
I am confident that you will not regret getting outside to see the natural wonders of Virginia - make a list or be spontaneous. You don't really need to be convinced, do you?
