This beautiful body of water is sourced from the Jackson River and is the result of the Gathright Dam, a massive structure that backs up the river for 12 miles.
The Lake itself measures an impressive 2,500 surface acres and reaches a depth of 152 feet. It’s the perfect backdrop for camping, a picnic, or any number of outdoor activities.
In addition to its incredible scenery, the Lake is perhaps best known for its fishing opportunities.
Biologists classify the lake as a "two-story" sport fishery, meaning that the reservoir is deep enough to accommodate both cold water fish (such as trout) and warm water fish (bass, sunfish, and catfish).
Yet you don’t have to be a fisherman to enjoy all that Lake Moomaw and its beautiful surroundings have to offer.
