Virginia never fails to impress with its endless array of memorable experiences your whole family can enjoy. Add to that list the Luray Zoo, a family-friendly destination where visitors can interact with beautiful and exotic creatures. Yet what makes this destination truly one-of-a-kind is its commitment to the animals. The Luray Zoo is a rescue zoo, meaning the animals are being rehabilitated and cared for. Rather than being on display for entertainment purposes only, each animal has a background that you'll learn about when you visit.
Please note: The Luray Zoo is temporarily closed, but if you'd like to support the animals and learn more about the property, you can visit the website and consider making a donation.
Established in 1957, the Luray Rescue Zoo is truly a hidden gem of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. And who could forget this one-of-a-kind gift shop entrance?
Unlike many zoos, this smaller-scale operation is dedicated to providing a safe environment for animals with unique circumstances and backstories. If it weren't for the rescue zoo, many of these lovable creatures would otherwise have nowhere else to go.
You and your little ones will love exploring this 3-acre zoo. The owners of the property will be out and about to offer information and insight into the animals' lives. You might even have the chance to help feed some of these residents!
The 20 exhibits outside feature primates, feline, birds, and mammals.
As you visit each exhibit, you'll want to take time to read the story of each animal and how they found a home at the Luray Zoo.
Part of the outdoor exhibit is a petting farm where visitors can have an up-close-and-personal experience with select animals.
There's also an impressive reptiles exhibit, which includes one of the largest venomous snake collections on the East Coast and a couple of alligators!
Have you visited the Luray Rescue Zoo before? If so, we'd love to hear all about your experience there! For more information, be sure to head on over to their Facebook Page by clicking here.
