Virginia winter weather trends are a bit of a mixed bag. Sometimes, we're inundated with freezing temperatures and other years, the season is downright mild. The Farmers' Almanac 2024 winter in Virginia predictions indicate that our great state will see its fair share of chilly weather. But there's some good news, especially for those who are cold-weather-averse: we're in for a calmer, gentler season. This is a bit surprising, especially considering last year's frigid and unpredictable temperatures.

For generations, folks have turned to the Farmers' Almanac for trustworthy long-range weather predictions. In publication since 1792, the almanac is brimming with wisdom and even boasts an 80 percent accuracy rate. That's why we're breathing a sigh of relief to hear that we won't have to bundle up quite so much this winter.

The extended forecast, which is put together based on a mathematical and astronomical formula, predicts some snow for this region of the state, too. For the Appalachians and Atlantic Corridor, snowfall will be below normal. Of course, you can always visit one of Virginia's winter resorts such as the Omni Homestead Resort or Massanutten Resort to enjoy their man-made snow.

So, what exactly does this mean? Snowfall likely won't be an issue when planning winter activities in Virginia. Road conditions should be easy to navigate, trails should be open, and visitors can experience all that winter in Virginia has to offer. It's a great time to visit some winter-friendly state parks, such as Huntley Meadows State Park near Alexandria.

It's important to note that while these predictions are historically reliable, there are always exceptions to the rule and folks should always be prepared for at least a little inclement weather each winter.
