If you’ve never experienced Douthat State Park, it’s high time you made plans to visit what’s highly considered to be one of the most beautiful parks in Virginia. Established in 1933, this beloved park has welcomed visitors and residents for decades.
One of the main draws to the park is the beautiful man-made beach. Whether you’re relaxing in the sand or splashing around in the 50-acre Douthat Lake, you’ll feel like you’re in paradise. Plus, there’s often a lifeguard on duty meaning your little ones can enjoy safe swimming as well.
Explore further into the park and you’ll discover another amazing attraction: waterfalls. There are a few in the park, one of which is the river dam. While this isn’t technically a waterfall, it has all of the allure of a cascade.
The other two waterfalls in the park can be accessed via the Blue Suck Falls Trail. This 3-mile hike is rated as difficult, but rest assured that the view will be well worth your efforts. Just be sure to wear appropriate shoes and pack plenty of water!
