If you love going for a scenic bike ride, Virginia's terrain will not disappoint. From smooth, paved surfaces to adrenaline-pumping mountain terrain, there's no shortage of ways to enjoy pedaling through the state. Today's destination is one we've featured before, but it also happens to be one of the most beautiful places for a bike ride in the state. So gather up the family and prepare for a biking adventure like none other.
If you’ve never been to High Bridge State Park, it’s an absolute must-see. The trail itself stretches for 31 miles and runs the course of a former rail bed. It’s wide, level, and mostly flat, making it the perfect terrain for walking or biking.
The main focus of the trail is, of course, the bridge itself. Measuring over 2,400 feet long, this massive structure crosses over the Appomattox River, offering breathtaking views on either side.
In fact, it’s the longest recreational bridge in Virginia, and if you’re up for an adventure, you can bike right over it!
One of the best access points for bikers is the Rice Parking Lot, approximately 3.2 miles from the bridge and a little over 8 miles from the town of Farmville.
Most visitors of the trail will be on foot, but the path is wide enough to accommodate everyone. You can bring your own bike or rent one from a nearby outfitter.
