A crazy beautiful and serene vista awaits you atop Wheeler Mountain, with views of Lake Willoughby and Willoughby State Forest all around you.
The hike is located in Willoughby State Forest and is a four-and-a-half mile hike out and back, featuring a fascinating hiking landscape and well-marked trails.
Rated as moderately difficult, Wheeler Mountain Trail is great for both advanced hikers and families hiking with kids. Parts of the trail tend to the steeper side, but most of the trail is very manageable and enjoyable.
We recommend hiking Wheeler Mountain in the fall during fall foliage (usually the second week of October).
The trail and views of Mt. Pisgah and the Willoughby State Forest are just gorgeous when the trees start to change colors.
Another interesting aspect of this hike is the large granite rock formations, which you will encounter along the hike up Wheeler Mountain.
There are plenty of twists and turns going up this trail, but don't worry, the incline looks worse than it actually is. Plus, you won't want to miss out on the incredible views at the top.
No matter what season you take the hike you'll be rewarded with stunning views as far as the eye can see.
