While we love all of the incredible hiking trails you’ll find across Vermont, sometimes we simply don’t have the time or the energy to enjoy a long trek. That’s why today, we’re sharing with you an easy .4-mile trail that leads to an unforgettable 125-foot waterfall sure to impress. Let’s jump in, shall we?
Located in Killington, Vermont, Thundering Brook Falls might just be one of our all-time favorite destinations — and the easy boardwalk trail that leads to the cascade is not too shabby, either.
Measuring in at less than half a mile round trip, it doesn’t get much better than this short and sweet hike perfect for the entire family. This well-maintained wooden walkway is ideal for small, wandering children, parents pushing strollers, and those with mobility challenges.
Everywhere you look, you’ll be delighted by the lush greenery surrounding you, but you can also visit Thundering Brook Falls in the fall when the forest is ablaze with colors and even when snow blankets the ground in the winter months.
As you make your way to the end of the boardwalk, you will discover a short, gravel-packed path. You’ll likely hear the rushing water before you set your eyes on the cascading Thundering Brook Falls.
With a total drop of 125 feet shared between the upper and lower falls, Thundering Brook Falls is quite dramatic, so don’t forget your camera. Amateur and professional photographers alike are enthralled with the beauty of this waterfall.
As part of Kent Brook flowing out of Kent Pond, Thundering Brook is most stunning during periods of high water, though we think even a trickling waterfall is beautiful, don’t you?
The trail to Thundering Brook Falls is said to be the first and only universally-accessible portion of the Appalachian Trail in Vermont. The 900-foot boardwalk built by the Green Mountain Club replaced a dusty roadway and features stunning views of both the Ottauquechee Valley and the falls.
