No one wants to be hiking on a trail with hoards of people around them. Luckily for us Vermonters, we don't often have this problem. With so many hiking options in Vermont, trails are rarely over crowed. However, some trails are still more heavily trafficked than others, and if you are longing to take a secluded hike and wander through the wilderness in complete isolation, the Stratton Mountain and Pond Loop is certainly a hike for you. The loop trail is just over 10 miles long and offers a great variety of terrain and landscape views. And for a bonus, at the top of the mountain, there is a fire tower with a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view.
At just over 10 miles, this trail requires some stamina, but the views from the top and the hike itself are well worth it.
A great aspect of this hike is its variety. You'll encounter creeks, ponds, a lake, lush green areas, and dark wooded areas all in a single hike.
The trail is well marked with signs, making the journey very accessible and manageable.
Some lookouts will present themselves if you are keeping an eye out for them.
There is a nice mix of sun and shade during the trek up to the peak as well.
Another great aspect of this hike is the Stratton Pond. During the summer months, the pond is great for a swim to cool off from the exhausting hike.
At the peak, you'll come across a fire tower, where you will be treated to a stunning 360-degree panoramic view of the Green Mountains.
The view from the fire tower on Stratton Mountain is all the more enjoyable after a long trek.
As was mentioned earlier, this hike does require a fair amount of stamina, but that also means that you will encounter fewer people. If you are up for a long, steady incline, the Stratton Pond Loop has everything you'd want in a hike.
