Natural beauty comes in many forms, and Vermont is lucky enough to be packed with it. Because everything is packed together a little more, these beautiful hiking trails around small-town Vermont are ripe for hiking. No matter the time of year, Saint Albans is lucky to have such pretty trails surrounding it, ready to be explored. Grab that bucket list and a pen, and mark these down for a future road trip stop or trail checklist.
1. Aldis Hill Loop - Aldis Hill Park
To start things off easy, this short 1.6-mile hike around Aldis Hill is a scenic way to start the day. Looping around the hill, this path will take you in and around overlooks of the lake, rock formations, and the beauty of walking through a forest for a little while. Thankfully, this trail is beautiful no matter the season, so you can come back to visit anytime it's open.
2. VYCC Trail and Beaver Trail Loop - Saint Albans Town Forest
Saint Albans is a stunning area of Vermont, but there's a special beauty out at the 162-acre Saint Albans Town Forest that should be appreciated. These two loop trails form one experience that only measures 1.3 miles long. It's easy hiking in the warmer months and offers extra colorful beauty if you manage to catch it in the fall.
3. Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail - Saint Albans, VT to Richford, VT.
You'll want to bring your bike for this trail!
Last but not least on this list is a rail trail that can last all day if you have the stamina. The Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail should take a while to finish, coming in at 26.5 miles long. Most visitors just take it a few miles at a time by bike and return another day to explore it section by section. With an average time of 8 hours to complete, biking it in sections is probably your best bet.
If you've seen enough to want to explore in town as well, your adventure doesn't have to end at the trees. There are plenty of places to see, so don't be afraid to spend the day enjoying Saint Albans for an extension on your adventure. Happy hiking!
