Farm to table dining is the "in" thing these days, but let's face it... Vermont has always been into fresh produce, supporting local farmers and fantastic tasting foods. So it's really no surprise that you'll find some of the best places that offer farm to table dining right here in little old Vermont. Let's take a look at a few of the places that have dishes that have made our taste buds jump off our tongue and slap us across the face. OK, not literally, but you get the picture.
1. Hen of the Wood - 92 Stowe Street, Waterbury
Everyone simply raves about this fine place and for good reason. Did you know that Hen of the Wood was named one of the best in the world by Conde Nast Traveler?
2. Newport Ciderhouse Bar & Grill - 150 Main Street, Newport
(Note: as of October 2020, Newport Ciderhouse is permanently closed). Located right in the Northeast Kingdom Tasting Center, you'll love the fresh fare at this hip restaurant. The burgers here are out of this world!
3. The Downtown Grocery - 41 S Depot Street, Ludlow
You'll find local and seasonal ingredients in every dish on their ever-changing blackboard. If you're looking for a killer brunch that's fresh and fabulous, go here.
4. Roots the Restaurant - 51 Wales Street, Rutland
Roots' mission is to create delicious food from fresh, local ingredients. You'll find an affordable variety of of delicious produce, meat, dairy and much more on their seasonal menus.
5. Juniper's Restaurant - 2059 Darling Hill Road, Lyndonville
This amazing place at the Wildflower not only uses local products, their entire menu is gluten free! Whether they use gluten free products or avoid adding unnecessary gluten to their soups or sauces, if you like farm to table as well as gluten free dining, Juniper's is the place for you!
6. The Kitchen Table Bistro - 1840 W Main Street, Richmond
This chef owned bistro has delicious farm to table dishes, and when you pair it with their award winning wine list... Perfection!
7. The Backroom - 3963 Route 100, Pittsfield
The Backroom has been called "New England's coolest dinner party" by the New York Times for good reason. The chef's personal kitchen/dining room starts like this...
And turns into this!
A fun and friendly place with incredible dishes (pictured is a braised bacon with house pickled ramps), you can't help but have a great time at the Backroom mingling with other guests as well as the chef. Simply amazing and perfectly unique.
8. Michael's on the Hill - 4182 Waterbury-Stowe Road, Waterbury Center
The food here is as fresh as it is beautiful. Michael's on the Hill has been proudly sourcing local foods long before it became the in-thing.
9. The Farmhouse Tap & Grill - 160 Bank Street, Burlington
The outdoor patio is a great place to enjoy a prized Vermont beer, but be sure to dive into the menu here. It's simply delicious!
10. SoLo Farm & Table - 95 Middletown Road, South Londonderry
It's truly a family affair behind the scenes at SoLo Farm & Table, and you can taste the love and passion that goes into every dish. It doesn't get much more farm to table than gathering the ingredients from your own backyard whenever possible!
11. The Copper Grouse - 3835 Main Street, Manchester
The Copper Grouse may be new on the scene, but boy is it fantastic. Watch the chefs make magic in the open kitchen and then sit back and enjoy the regionally inspired fare.
