There is no better way to appreciate the beauty of Vermont than to look out at the unobstructed views from high above. The Owls Head Trail in the New Discovery State Park is a short, three-mile hike to an overlook that will put you on top of the world. This scenic vista of Lake Groton, Kettle Pon, and the Green Mountains is simply not to be missed. This easy trail in VT should be on your bucket list for sure!

You'll find the start of Owls Head Trail on the road between New Discovery State Park and the Osmore Pond scenic area.
For an even shorter hike to the lookout, there is a second parking area close to the summit of Owls Head at the end of Lanesboro Road.
The trek up is fairly easy, but the last 1/4 mile is pretty steep, so be prepared.
The views from the top are worth every step!
There are interpretive signs at the top which identify the peaks and geology of the area.
Be sure to check out the stone shelter which was built in the 1930s by volunteers in the Civilian Conservation Corps.
With the steep ascent at the end of the trail, this couldn't have been easy to build!
