Vermont is world famous for its breathtaking mountaintop views. Some are easier to get to than others. But if you aren't afraid of a little extra effort (and if you're a Vermont native, we know you're not), the hike to Deer Leap Overlook will take you to new heights. The sheer beauty visible from this boulder perch is worthy of a little adventure.
Located in Killington, Deer Leap Overlook is a great spot to get your head up near the clouds. The views are outstanding and worth every step of the roundtrip two-mile journey.
The trail starts off as any easy path through the forest. Enjoy the stroll, it only gets more challenging as you work your way toward the end prize.
You'll encounter roots, rocks, and maybe even mud as you continue on. Make sure you have on sturdy shoes, it's easy to misstep and lose your footing.
Natural staircases and steep grades are all part of the adventure. The glacial rocks and captivating forest setting of the trail are nearly picture perfect.
A giant rock is the base of the overlook. Climb on up and give yourself a pat on the back for making it to the top. Then begin to pivot and absorb the extraordinary views.
Take in the breathtaking scenery of Pico Peak and the Mendon Valley. As you look across the miles, it will feel like your head is right up in the clouds.
While the panorama is quite magnificent year-round, you'll want to hike this trail at least once in the fall. The vibrant carpet of foliage stretching across the landscape merits a return trip.
