When you live in Vermont, there’s no shortage of awesome hikes, trails, and forests to explore. Pretty much everything you could want from the natural world (deserts and volcanoes excluded) is right at your fingertips. However, we think this mountain hike in Vermont is something special. Here’s why.
Mount Abraham is a stunning peak located in Addison County. It’s the fifth-tallest mountain in Vermont, but locals will be sure to tell you it’s the prettiest.
The mountain is right on the Long Trail, which is a 272-mile route that runs right across the state. Luckily, you don’t have to hike the entire trail to reach Mount Abraham’s stunning lofty overlook.
Your hike to the top starts at one of the park’s parking lots. You can choose to leave your car at the upper or lower lot.
Then, set off on the 5.1-mile out-and-back trail that leads to the overlook and summit. The path gets the most foot traffic in the spring and summer.
Newbie hikers should take it slow and steady, as the terrain can be bumpy and stony at times. Wear solid hiking boots or sneakers with real grip and don’t forget to bring plenty of water.
When you get to the top, you’ll be wowed by panoramic views of the Champlain Valley and the Adirondack Mountains. Stop to admire the view and spread out a picnic blanket to enjoy some hard-earned snacks.
This quick hike is the best way to climb a 4,000-foot mountain without actually needing to toil up 4,000 feet. When you show your friends pictures, they’ll think you’re an expert mountaineer.
