Every state has an iconic landmark that most residents have visited at least once. In Utah, that landmark is Zion National Park. Among the state’s best natural wonders, the park boasts some of the most outstanding scenery in Utah. It’s truly a spectacular sight – one that most Utahns will never forget seeing for the first time.
Located in southern Utah near the city of Springdale, Zion National Park was established in 1919, making it Utah’s first national park.
It’s not just Utah’s first national park, though. It’s also one of the best – something that hasn’t been lost on locals as well as tourists.
The park’s most distinguishing feature is the steep red cliffs of Zion Canyon. In fact, the park is often referred to as a “vertical park” because of its towering vertical walls.
Waterfalls, wildlife, and sweeping vistas are also hallmarks of the park.
More than 90 miles of hiking and backpacking trails wind through the park, making it easy to explore its best sites.
The Narrows, Canyon Overlook Trail, Pa'rus Trail, Observation Point, and the Watchman Trail are among the park’s most popular treks.
If driving is more your thing, you’re in luck. The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive and Zion-Mount Carmel Highway both traverse the park, leading to some of the park’s most remarkable sites.
Prefer to leave the driving to someone else? No problem; between spring and fall, there’s a sightseeing bus that follows the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive. The bus even stops at the major sites, ensuring you don’t miss a thing.
In addition to hiking and sightseeing, Zion National Park offers canyoneering, rock climbing, and camping.
Between the stunning sights and wealth of recreational opportunities, it’s no wonder Zion National Park makes a lasting impression on all who visit! So, what do you think? Are you ready to (re)visit Zion National Park? For more information on the park, check out the National Park Service website.
