With up to 46 state parks in Utah, there is no shortage of places to visit and explore. While many of these parks are wonderful destinations regardless of the time of year, there is one that I love recommending during the fall months — Wasatch Mountain State Park. Here, you’ll capture some of the most incredible fall foliage, plus there are hiking and camping opportunities to help you truly fall in love with the autumn months. It is a beautiful destination for a fall day trip in Utah.
Wasatch Mountain State Park is located in Midway, Utah. It’s just a short drive from popular destinations like Park City and Provo.
While I recommend a visit to this park any time of the year, during the autumn, the vibrant colors make this one of the best state parks in Utah for fall foliage.
As you drive around, you will spot vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges.
Even if early snow arrives, the vibrant colors create scenery that looks like something out of a painting.
One of the best ways to surround yourself with the fall foliage is on one of the park's many hiking trails. These trails are used for hiking, mountain biking, and even horseback riding.
Although, during the fall, I suggest you lace up your hiking boots and explore the Cascade Springs Interpretive Trail.
This is one of the best family-friendly hikes in Wasatch Mountain State Park. It is less than one mile and features small waterfalls, bridges, and the most stunning fall foliage.
If you want a trail that is a little more challenging, the Phosphate Trail Loop is a must do. This 6-mile loop trail is considered moderate in difficulty but you really won’t care about the extra effort it requires because the views are going to enchant you.
And while this park is perfect for a day trip, camping is also available throughout most of October.
There are several campsite options available. You will want to visit the Utah State Parks website for more information including campsite availability.
In my opinion, the perfect autumn day includes fall foliage and Wasatch Mountain State Park has some of the best. It’s a fall destination you’ll never regret visiting.
