Waterfall hikes are some of the best, in our opinion. There's just nothing like a cool, refreshing waterfall at the end of a hot, sunny trail, and this particular trail takes you up onto one of Utah's most gorgeous mountains. It's a bit of a climb, but the waterfall at the end makes it worth it.
To reach Scout Falls, you'll take the Timpooneke trail, which is the same trail you take to reach the summit of Mount Timpanogos.
Take UT-92 (Timpanogos Highway) about 12 miles up the canyon to the well-marked trailhead. There is a $6 fee to enter the canyon but it's valid for three days.
The trail to Scout Falls is four miles out and back and it's considered moderately difficult with a 1,089-foot elevation climb.
For the first part of the hike, the trail has a fairly gradual climb, and you'll be hiking through both shady spots and sun-exposed spots. Make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen on this hike.
As the trail gets more steep, the views get more incredible, and you'll want to stop to take some photos along the way.
Before you get to the falls, you'll see a fork in the trail, and either direction takes you to them. If you go to the left, you'll scramble up a steep section of the trail that's covered with rocks.
If you choose to go right at the fork, the path is a little longer, but mostly flat... until you get to this spot where you'll scramble up over the tree roots to get to the top.
No matter which way you decide to ascend, take caution — it's very steep and there are some drop offs.
Depending on the time of year and the amount of snowfall we've had during the previous winter, Scout Falls can be a series of small trickles, or a magnificent cascade.
There's nothing like being perched on the side of a stunning mountain, surrounded by waterfalls!
