As the weather gets nicer in the Beehive State, it's finally time to get out of the house and back onto the hiking trails! March is a great time of year to visit Bryce Canyon National Park, and this enchanting hike is one of the best ways to see hoodoos up close.
The Queen's Garden Trail starts at Sunrise Point.
The hike is 1.8 miles, round trip.
The view of the amphitheater is incredible from the top.
The National Park Service considers this to be the easiest hike from the rim.
You'll start by descending 320 feet into the "garden" below. The path is a groomed dirt path and is pretty level and free of obstacles.
As you walk down the level path, you'll pass many interesting hoodoos.
You'll get up close and friendly with them!
Once you get to the bottom, you'll be surrounded by hoodoos.
You'll gain a unique perspective of these hoodoos - viewing them from the bottom up.
Many visitors to Bryce Canyon National Park only view the amphitheater from the top - from one of the viewpoints. So, they only see the hoodoos from a distance, from the top, down.
Watch for wildlife!
One hoodoo is supposed to look like a statue of Queen Victoria - this is where Queen's Garden got its name.
Can you see her?
Queen Victoria sits high above her garden.
If you really use your imagination, you might see her, riding a horse, with her dress spread out behind her.
This trail is typically accessible starting as early as March, but you'll want to check with the Visitor Center before heading out.
The trail sometimes closes if there's snow or ice.
On hot days, make sure to bring plenty of water.
While the hike down is very easy, the hike back up is obviously more challenging.
