Some bodies of water are perfect for waterskiing and boating; others are best for kayaking and fishing. In the High Uintas, alpine lakes are like little jewels just waiting to be fished and explored. There's one popular lake that's particularly beautiful, and you should put it on your bucket list this summer. Check out Mirror Lake:
For some of the most stunning scenery in the Beehive State, take the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. The byway starts in Kamas and climbs for 42 miles up to Bald Mountain Pass, which sits at 10,687 feet.
As you descend from the pass, you'll quickly come to one of the most beautiful lakes in the High Uintas: Mirror Lake.
This place is a great respite from the heat of a Utah summer. High temperatures at the lake average just 65-75 degrees.
Take the loop trail around the lake to see it from all angles. The trail is 2.8 miles long, and is almost perfectly flat, so it's great for most hikers. Keep an eye out for moose - they're plentiful here.
The lake is not open to motorized boats, which makes this a quiet, peaceful experience. Bring your canoe or kayak to paddle and explore, and drop a line in to see if you can catch a rainbow trout.
While a day trip to Mirror Lake is a great adventure, you might want to consider an overnight stay. Mirror Lake Campground offers 70 singles sites, 7 double sites, and 1 triple site.
Campsites are rustic, with fire pits and picnic tables. The campground opens on July 1st and closes at the end of September.
Utah's High Uintas receive a lot of snow during the winter, and the scenic byway typically doesn't open until June or July.
