One of the best things about Utah is the thousands of hiking trails we enjoy. However, when it's 103 degrees, it's sometimes hard to enjoy being outdoors. This fun hike takes you into a shady slot canyon and through a stream until you get to the prize at the end - Kanarraville Falls in Utah! Check out the Kanarraville Falls Trail and follow it all the way down to the enchanting waterfall at its end.
Kanarraville is located in Iron County.
It's about 3.5 hours south of Salt Lake City, and 40 minutes north of St. George. It’s right off I-15. From 100 North in Kanarraville, drive a few blocks to the parking lot. The trailhead starts here, and you’re off to discover one of Utah’s hidden gems.
Get ready for one of the most amazing outdoor adventures in Utah. As you travel along, the first part of the trail takes you along a dirt road. You’ll cross the creek a few times along the way.
You might be surprised how lush and green it is here. The green pops against the gorgeous red rock behind it, and you can see lots of different types of plant life as you hike along the trail.
At one point in the hike, you'll start walking through the creek (which is nice and cold!)
You'll soon reach the slot canyon. The slot canyon is a destination itself. This impressive rock is carved out by countless years of water rushing along it. The striated colors are absolutely breathtaking.
The canyon is gorgeous! It's nice and cool, too. The walls will tower up and above you. The most interesting part is how softly shaped the rock walls have begun. The water has worn off any rough edges to the canyon you see before you now.
Before long, you'll reach the waterfall. If the lead up through the slot canyon wasn’t breathtaking enough, this waterfall is one you’ll never forget. It feels like you’re walking into a fairy tale.
Climb the 12-foot ladder to the top of the fall, but be careful...the rungs can be slippery!
From the top of the fall, you can hike a little farther. You'll find a few more small falls that you can actually slide down. This trail is truly one of the most beautiful waterfall hikes in Utah that you’ll find in your explorations.
This trail is 4.8 miles, roundtrip.
It’s moderately strenuous and probably not the best trail for very young children, unless you plan on carrying them. Older kids love it! The hike will take you about three hours to complete (not counting the time you’ll want to spend at the waterfall.) Bring a loved one and get out and enjoy the most famous Utah hidden gems.
