Located in Provo Canyon is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Utah — Bridal Veil Falls. This is a popular destination for individuals of all ages in the summer, but the winter provides just as stunning of views. In fact, during the winter, this Utah waterfall and surrounding area transform into a natural ice palace that is magical in every single way.
Bridal Veil Fall is a natural waterfall located up Provo Canyon. This is one of the tallest waterfalls in Utah and you can view the falls right from the road.
However, we suggest hopping out of the car and exploring the area — it’s well worth the effort.
Bridal Veil Park sits adjacent to the falls and is the perfect place to spend a summer evening. While this park is busy during the warmer months of the year, in the winter, it is an excellent place for a little peace and quiet in nature.
The park features picnic tables under canopies of trees, a paved trail, and some of Mother Nature’s greatest creations everywhere you look.
While the trail is typically not plowed during the winter months, it is usually well-traveled and easy to follow.
When the temperature consistently drops below freezing, this winter wonderland turns into a true natural ice palace.
To the side of the falls is the Stairway to Heaven, where you may just catch a glimpse of ice climbers working their way up the icy falls. Keep in mind, the climb up the Stairway to Heaven is very dangerous and not for beginners. Those new to ice climbing can hone their skills at the base of Stairway to Heaven in a much safer environment.
If you would rather just enjoy the beauty of the frozen falls from a distance, sit back at the park or along the side of the road and enjoy the wintery landscapes. It's a sight that will inspire in every way.
You can also walk along the trail near the falls to capture views of the bridges, river, trees, and so much more — you never know what incredible ice features or winter scenes you may come across.
No matter what activities you choose to complete, be careful and smart. Wear proper footwear and dress appropriately for the weather. The beauty of the area is dazzling — it’s a natural ice palace that you’ll never regret visiting.
