Every year, thousands of Bald Eagles migrate to Utah to winter here from November through March, and Farmington Bay is one of their favorite places to hang out. This year, make sure to catch a glimpse of these majestic birds — it is an incredible sight to see Bald Eagles in Utah!
The Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area covers 18,000 acres near the Great Salt Lake. Millions of birds call this place home throughout the year, and many of them stop by for just a short time during their migration.
From November through March, Bald Eagles migrate to Utah by the thousands from places like Alaska and Canada, searching out warmer climates.
Many of them end up wintering at Farmington Bay, where they can rest and dine on fish for a while before heading back home. During the winter, you might see dozens on any given day, and hundreds might be present.
These gorgeous birds have wing spans of six to eight feet across and can stand up to three feet tall.
These majestic birds are a sight to see! You'll find them hanging out in trees, soaring overhead, and perhaps even swooping down to catch prey. Make sure to bring your binoculars to get a good look.
You can spot Bald Eagles anytime during the winter months in Utah, and in several spots around the state, but Farmington Bay is one of the best places for viewing these huge birds.
One great place to catch a glimpse of the Bald Eagles on Farmington Bay is the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Wildlife Education Center.
It includes a Conservation Hall with lots of displays and a 1.6-mile-long trail through the wetlands.
The center is open Tuesday through Saturday. The nature trail is always available to the public, even when the buildings are closed.
