Tucked away in the southeastern corner of the Beehive State is where you will find Goosenecks State Park. This state park is only 10 acres in size, making it one of the smallest state parks in Utah, but it offers some of the largest and most majestic views. In fact, no matter the time of day that you visit this incredible park, you’ll capture scenic views that are jaw-dropping, inspiring, and unforgettable.
Due to its small size and location, there is not too much to do at this Utah state park but that’s okay. You come to this state park for one thing: the views.
The main viewpoint is located approximately 1,000 feet above the San Juan River. As you look down, you’ll see one of the most unique and well-known entrenched meanders on the North American continent.
Millions of years ago, an uplift occurred in the Colorado Plateau and the San Juan River began to cut into the land, creating these incredible meanders. Today, we love to simply admire this area's beauty and the unique landscape.
Sightseeing is one of the main activities at Goosenecks State Park and during the day, it's stunning. But, it isn’t just the daytime hours when you will capture some remarkable views. Goosenecks State Park is a certified International Dark Sky Park and the star shows here are extraordinary.
There are eight campsites and each offers a fire ring and picnic tables. These sites are first come, first served. Make sure you come prepared with all of your camping necessities as there are no services here except for vault toilets. There is also no shade and during the summer months, this entire area can become extremely hot.
No matter if you visit this state park for an hour or you wish to stay for a few days, don't forget your camera. This is one view that you will not want to forget!

Hike Snow Canyon State Park’s Scout Cave Trail in Utah for an Unforgettable Adventure
In my opinion, one of the best hikes in Utah is the Scout Cave Trail at Snow Canyon State Park. It's open all year, not super challenging, and showcases views that are almost too breathtaking to be real.
Utah is a nature lover's dream, and we're blessed with some of the best hiking trails in the country. It just doesn't get much better than our vast canyons and stunning rock formations. I could spend the rest of my life hiking in the Beehive State and still get excited about hitting the trail each day! In my opinion, one of the best hikes in Utah is the Scout Cave Trail at Snow Canyon State Park. It's open all year, not super challenging, and showcases views that are almost too breathtaking to be real. Plus, it's kid and pet-friendly!
Scout Cave Trail is a 3.4-mile out-and-back hike that passes over lava flow fields, Navajo Sandstone rocks, and stream beds. Although it's rated as intermediate on AllTrails, most hikers describe it as being easy, so you definitely don't need to be super skilled. The elevation gain is about 350 feet, and just a few moderate climbing sections make up the bulk of it. You're unlikely to get lost because the trail is very well-marked, and the variation in terrain makes for an interesting adventure from start to finish.
By far the coolest part of the trail (and the main reason anyone hikes it in the first place) is Scout Cave. It's located right before the turnaround point and showcases unbelievable panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the city below. You can actually go inside the cave, which makes this trail a favorite among kiddos.
Shade is minimal, so if you're visiting in the summer, you'll definitely want to wear a hat and load up on sunscreen. Getting started early in the morning also helps with the temperature issue - although the views at sunset are equally as mesmerizing. You should also bring plenty of water and a snack or two, and make sure you have durable footwear for the rock scrambling sections of the trail (however brief they may be).

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L.
