The arrival of spring is always welcome, even after a mild winter. There's one way to tell without fail when spring in Utah has finally sprung - the appearance of the cherry blossoms at the Utah State Capitol. We think you'll feel like you're walking through a piece of living artwork as you are surrounded by countless soft pink blooms.
Every year, the 433 Yoshino cherry trees around the Utah State Capitol burst into pale pink blossoms, signaling that spring has returned to the Beehive State.
The blossoms typically appear between mid-March and early April. You'll want to pay attention to your calendar so you don't miss the cheerful indicator that spring in Utah has returned.
Take a stroll along the .7-mile long Memorial Walkway to immerse yourself in the magical beauty of spring.
The walkway circles the Capitol. It's the perfect place to enjoy a beautiful spring day. Bring a picnic lunch and dine on the lawn under the trees, or sit on a bench and just bask in the sunshine.
Visit during your lunch break, or bring your children on a weekday or weekend afternoon. Your dog is even welcome here!
The Yoshino cherry trees were a gift from the people of Japan to Utah, following World War II. To honor that token of friendship, the trees were planted in a place of great importance to the Beehive State - it's Capitol.
Yoshino cherry trees bloom for just a short period of time, so you'll want to visit the grounds of the Capitol soon, before they're gone until next year.
In addition to the Cherry Blossoms, the Utah State Capitol is well worth a visit to enjoy various its memorials, history, and art collection.
