If you love animals, you'll find plenty of spots in The Salt Lake Valley to see and interact with them. Visit the tigers, elephants, and polar bears at Hogle Zoo; say hello to the penguins, otters, and sharks at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium; and pet adorable farm animals at Cross E Ranch. And if brightly-colored birds are your jam, Tracy Aviary is the place to be. This Salt Lake City aviary is bound to become one of your new favorite destinations!
Liberty Park is one of the gems in the Salt Lake City Park System. Its 110 acres are covered with lush, green grass and large cottonwood trees. The park has tennis courts, playgrounds, and a large pond, and it's also home to Tracy Aviary.
Tracy Aviary UT was founded more than 80 years ago, an it's one of only two stand-alone aviaries in the country that's accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The aviary, much like Liberty Park, is a little oasis of trees and greenery. Signs along the paths direct you to the homes of the different bird species.
Many of the residents here are decked out in colorful splendor! Keep an eye out for them in the trees...
...hanging out near the pond...
...and strutting around the grounds. Some of them will even put on a display for you if you catch them in the right mood.
Watch for baby birds, too. Have you ever seen a baby flamingo? They're downright adorable.
These Tracy Aviary photos alone should be enough to convince you to show up!
You also might have a chance to meet birds up close and in person. Trainers and docents are often on hand with a feathery friend to educate visitors about the different bird species at the aviary.
Bird shows are another great way to appreciate these beautiful creatures! Seating is limited, so make sure to arrive early.
Tracy Aviary is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. almost every day of the year (it's closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas). Pop in soon to see these beautiful, brightly-colored birds!
