Although the transition out of winter isn't the most marked in Texas, I can still always tell when spring has arrived. The air has a more invigorating feel to it, and I find myself wanting to spend lots of time outdoors. If you're like me and want to soak up some sun this season, look no further than the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center Outer Loop Trail. This easy trail is loaded with seasonal wildflowers and it will take your breath away. It's definitely one of the best wildflower hikes in Texas!
Nothing beats a spring hike, and one of my very favorites in all of Texas is the Houston Arboretum and Nature Center Outer Loop Trail.
At just 2.3 miles long, this easy loop meanders through woods and around bodies of water for a family-friendly adventure (including leashed pups!).
You'll feel like you're far from Houston as you meander through the wild terrain.
Experience what Houston was like before urban development, marveling at all of the native plants and wildlife.
There are also a number of educational field stations along the trail and at the arboretum as a whole, so it's perfect for families with eager-to-learn youngsters (or anyone who enjoys gaining knowledge about the natural world!).
While the trail is accessible year-round, spring is - in my opinion, at least - the best time to visit.
Spring is the season of rebirth, and you can really see that on this trail. Beautiful wildflowers line both sides of the path, and their colors seem almost too vibrant to be real.
The blooms encompass almost every color of the rainbow, just begging to be photographed.
Not only are the flowers beautiful, but they're also incredibly fragrant, with intoxicating aromas that permeate the air like the sweetest perfume imaginable.
Since the trail is so short, you'll have plenty of time to stop and "smell the roses," to speak.
Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes and bring along a good camera! You'll want to really take your time on this trail and snap as many pictures as you can.
