Who's ready for a tropical vacation? Here's the kicker: the place we have in mind is right here in Texas! Palmetto State Park is a paradisal oasis in the rugged Texas Hill Country, and it'll transport you straight to the islands.
Conveniently located just an hour from Austin and San Antonio, Palmetto State Park is a tropical oasis that'll make you swear you aren't in Texas anymore.
The park's namesake plants, dwarf palmettos, grow under the trees, giving it an unmistakable island feel.
Hiking trails meander over boardwalks and alongside the pristine San Marcos River, taking you up close and personal with the unique landscape.
In addition to the river, multiple other water sources flow through the park, including a lake, an artesian well, and several swamps.
Not only does all the water allow the abundance of vegetation to flourish, but it also sets the stage for activities like fishing, swimming, and canoeing.
Extend your stay overnight at one of 19 tent sites, 18 RV sites, a secluded group site, or an air-conditioned cabin.
You can also host an event at the CCC-built picnic pavilion, which features an air-conditioned kitchen. The architecture is incredible!
Address: 78 Park Road 11 South, Gonzales, TX 78629.
The daily entrance fee is $3 for adults, and children ages 12 years and under get in free.
Visit the park's website or Facebook page for more information, including hours and camping rates.
