1. The Comal River (New Braunfels)

Nothing says summer in Texas quite like a leisurely float down the Comal. It's our favorite way to crack open a cold one and beat the intense heat. More information here.

2. Mustang Island (Corpus Christi)

Our state definitely isn't known for having the most beautiful beaches. But this beach's beautiful sand, clear blue water, and lack of crowding will make you feel like you're in a tropical paradise.

3. Balmorhea State Park (Toyahvale)

With its crystal-clear water and breathtaking mountainous surroundings, Balmorhea State Park contains the world's largest spring-fed pool. More information here.

4. Barton Springs Pool (Austin)

Barton Springs Pool is the best of both worlds: clean, man-made pools and the natural beauty of spring-fed swimming holes. More information here.

5. Devil's River (Del Rio)

Considering how rare blue water is here in Texas, Devil's River is a diamond in the rough. It's easily one of the most striking bodies of water I've ever seen. More information here.

6. Hueco Tanks State Park (El Paso)

Big Bend gets most of the attention as far as West Texas parks go, but there are plenty of others that deserve more recognition. Hueco Tanks has a mystical air about it that can't be explained but can certainly be felt. More information here.

7. Hamilton Pool (Dripping Springs)

As if we haven't written about Hamilton Pool enough...but can you blame us? It's a mystical grotto that's sure to transport you to a Disney movie-esque world full of happiness and dreams come true. More information here.

8. Cattail Falls (Big Bend National Park)

Of all the hidden gems in Texas, this one is truly the most tucked away. You won't find it unless you're looking for it, and sometimes not even then without detailed directions. More information here.

9. Gorman Falls (Bend)

Lord of the Rings fans, this one is for you. Gorman Falls looks like something from Middle Earth, and it's sure to make you forget what planet you're on. More information here.

10. Son's Island (Seguin)

Not all of us have time for or can afford a lavish tropical vacation, but lucky for us, we have the next best thing right here in Texas. Son's Island near New Braunfels is a hidden tropical paradise that'll take you a thousand miles away without ever having to leave home. More information here.
