Lake Livingston State Park is a nature lover's dream. Tucked away in the forestlands of East Texas, this lush oasis is home to one of the best boardwalk hikes in the state. It's short, easy, accessible, and oh so scenic, leading through a butterfly garden, bird blind, and shaded picnic area.
If you're looking for an easy hike that doesn't skimp on views, head to Lake Livingston State Park.
Just an hour north of Houston, this Piney Woods oasis offers a boardwalk loop trail that's less than a mile long, making for a short and sweet - yet extremely memorable - experience.
Known as the Pineywoods Boardwalk, this meandering path leads through a dense forest with evergreen pines and other beautiful trees such as oak, sweetgum, ash, and dogwood. The landscape is gorgeous year-round, but seeing the ground covered in autumn leaves is an especially lovely sight.
The trail is very well-shaded and has an elevation gain of just 13 feet, making it accessible for most wheelchair users and strollers.
Midway along the trail, you'll come to a grassy picnic area that provides breathtaking views of a tree-lined pond.
You'll also pass through a pollinator garden...
...and a birdwatching area (don't forget your binoculars!)
