If you love food (which you do since you're from Texas), you know the never-ending struggle of deciding what to eat every day. With so many delicious options available in our state, it's hard to know whether you want a burger, barbecue, chili, or some crazy combination of all three. Lucky for us, we have a unique marketplace at the Dallas Farmers Market that has something for everyone - and you'll want to visit the next time hunger strikes.
There are two separate areas: The Market and The Shed. The former is open seven days a week, while the latter is only open Friday-Sunday.
Exact hours are as follows: For The Shed - 10am to 3pm Friday, 9am to 5pm Saturday, and 10am to 5pm Sunday. For The Market - 11am to 7pm daily (Friday 11am to 8pm.)
The Shed is an open-air pavilion housed with vendors selling seasonal produce, naturally raised meats, cheeses, eggs, and honey, and artisan breads and canned goods.
It's recommended that you arrive early in the day, as that's when the best selection of produce is found. You don't want to be left with the bumpy, bruised, wrinkly zucchini!
All of the food is grown, raised, or made locally, which means you're getting some of the freshest food around.
The website even has a tab that shows you exactly which vendors will be at the market on any given day, so you can plan ahead as to what day to visit and make an accurate shopping list.
The Market is a 26,000 square-foot building with four permanent restaurants, local specialty foods, and artisan vendors.
There are seating areas both inside and out, so grab a bite to eat or sip on a hot cup of fresh joe while you admire the Dallas skyline or observe other market-goers.
Feeling overwhelmed? Don't be - there's a market directory that separates the shops into categories to make it easier on you.
This way, you'll walk into the market knowing exactly who sells what and where they'll be located. A very helpful tool considering the sheer size of this place - I wouldn't know where to start either!
If you're a snack person, you'll be in heaven.
There are countless vendors selling nuts, popcorn, and other grazing foods with their own unique flavor combos that you'll find absolutely addictive.
Make sure to hit up Taqueria la Ventana for your authentic Mexican food fix.
And for all you cheese lovers out there, passing up Scardello Artisan Cheese would be almost criminal.
Everything is cut-to-order with a focus on handcrafted cheese made right here in Texas. Even if you aren't a cheese connoisseur with extremely refined taste buds, you'll be able to appreciate the quality of the product.
Now, onto everyone's favorite: dessert! There are sweet treats sure to please every palate, like this ice cream from Coolhaus.
Not only are the flavors unique and impossible to find anywhere else, but you can feel good about eating them because the company is committed to sustainability. Everything is natural, handmade, and organic whenever possible - satisfying your sweet tooth AND the needs of the planet all in one.
If a dainty little bite is more your style, Chelles Macarons has you covered.
The almost-too-adorable-to-eat treats come in a variety of flavors from chocolate to fruity pebbles and everything in between. They may be small, but don't underestimate their decadence.
And for those of you who like crazy, out-of-this-world delicious concoctions, be sure to check out Proper Baking Co.
This is the Victoria Sponge, which I'm almost certain is two sponge cakes filled with jam and topped with powdered sugar. It's like the fancier version of a jelly donut!
The market is located at 920 S. Harwood, Dallas, TX 75201. Have you ever been to the Dallas Farmers Market? What's your favorite thing to get there?
