We all can agree that the weather in Texas is notoriously unpredictable - especially in the winter. But thanks to the Farmers' Almanac's 2024-2025 winter predictions, we have some idea of what to expect. Unlike a couple of years ago, it looks like we'll see a “warmer than average winter” and there will be low levels of precipitation. So, there might be no need to pull out our thickest coats for this upcoming winter. As long as we don’t see a repeat of those extreme icy conditions from a few winters ago, we are good! Do you trust the Farmers’ Almanac 2024 winter in Texas predictions? Let's see what they are!
For over 200 years, the Farmers’ Almanac has been making its winter predictions. And though the forecasts aren’t perfect, the almanac stands by its 80 percent accuracy record. If you ask me, 80 percent is pretty solid, especially for something so unpredictable as the weather. The trustworthy almanac relies on weather patterns, astrological alignments, as well as mathematical data to make their predictions. But of course, Mother Nature can easily turn things upside down.
Most of the United States can expect a cold and wet winter season with the coldest conditions in the Northern Plains to the Great Lakes region. The Farmers' Almanac predictions for the U.S. for the upcoming season are essentially the polar (pun intended) opposite of Texas. Late January into the beginning of February could bring some of the most volatile conditions, with extreme cold, especially across the Northern Plains.
As for Texans, no need to bundle up this year! You might be wearing your light fall jacket for most of the winter. Winter will officially begin on December 21, and while only Mother Nature knows exactly when the coldest temperatures will arrive, the winter weather predictions for Texas forecast chilly weather for late January and early and late February.
However, for folks in West Texas, the almanac predicts that you will experience cool and dry weather for most of the season. The good news is that a major winter storm — such as the one we experienced in February 2021 — can be ruled out. If you were hoping for a winter wonderland for Christmas, you might need to add that to your Santa wish list. Santa, are you listening?
Since we can't change the weather, we might as well make the most of it. So, for the first half of the season, make plans to explore the Lone Star State. And when the wintery weather shows up late in the season, cozy up on the couch with a warm beverage, watch your favorite holiday movies, and maybe even build a snowman or two. I am hoping to play in some snow this year!
