Here in the Lone Star State, we’re fortunate to have such a wide variety of landscapes, and the Crockett Garden Falls trails in Texas lead through one of the most beautiful of them all. From rolling plains to towering mountains to this tropical oasis nestled right in a popular Georgetown park, the Lone Star State lacks little when it comes to the great outdoors. This relatively easy trail is one of the best hikes in Texas, and you'll want to embark on it time after time.
Hiding in Cedar Breaks Park, Crockett Gardens is a 7.7-mile trail that leads through a lush, jungle-like landscape. Despite the distance, it's a pretty easy hike suitable for kids and leashed dogs.
You'll encounter several different types of terrain, from enchanting tree tunnels to mossy rock overhangs. Each step offers an entirely new adventure, and the element of surprise is almost as exciting as the hike itself.
How fitting is this heart-shaped cactus? Especially since Georgetown isn't too far from the geographical center of Texas.
About 2.5 miles in, you'll encounter Crockett Gardens Falls in Georgetown (which may or may not be flowing based on recent rainfall.) Spilling into Lake Georgetown, this gentle cascade is truly akin to a tropical paradise.
Feel free to head back after spending some time by the water at Crockett Gardens, or keep going and finish out strong. Hiking isn't the only way to enjoy the trail, by the way! You can run, kayak, and even birdwatch to enjoy different aspects of the scenery.
There's even a long stretch of beachy shoreline! What doesn't this trail have? Sink your toes in the sand, close your eyes, and listen to the lapping of the water.
Time your hike around sunset to witness a sight that will make you so proud to live in Texas. This is a picture-perfect view, for sure, so don't forget your camera!
