Not many people know about these caves in Austin and the surrounding area. Seriously. How cool is Austin to have all of these caves right around the corner? Kinda creepy, but even more cool. Check em out!
1. Airman's cave is right under Austin (in Austin)...too cool!
2. Doesn't look like a cave, but the Congress bat bridge has been transformed into a bat "cave" home for the Mexican Freetail transplants!
3. Inner Space Caverns is just north of Austin in Georgetown, TX.
4. What great photo-ops to be had at Longhorn Cavern located near Marble Falls. TX
5. Doesn't Natural Bridge Caverns in San Antonio, TX just make you want to say..."Is this real life?"
6. Hamilton Pool is an awesome cave where you can take a dip in the natural pool.
7. Kickapoo Cavern State Park holds treasures like some of the tallest columns in all of Texas!
8. Check out these active formations that just take you to a whole other world! These can be found on the two mile cave hike in Caverns of Sonora.
9. Cave Without a Name is located in Kendall County...amazing!
10. Wonder World Cave is the perfect spot to take the kids to explore, right up the road in San Marcos.
11. This is the humble abode of the largest colonies of Mexican Freetail Bats in the world! Some 20 million bats fly out of this cave ever year to feed at night.
There are hundreds of other caves and caverns in Texas and near Austin, however they are not typically open to the public for tours. How would you like to check out these and other secret caves near Austin? What an adventure it would be!
