Science textbooks might be our only source of information about dinosaurs, but that doesn’t take away any of their intrigue. Learning more about them might add to our appreciation, and you can do just that at Dinosaur Park in Bastrop. From digging for fossils to admiring life-sized dinosaur statues, there’s educational fun to be had for the entire family.
Two digging stations afford kiddos the educational opportunity of uncovering ancient fossils. We grown-ups may be aware that they aren’t real, but little ones are none the wiser. Just wait until you see the looks on their faces when they find a giant bone - an absolutely priceless moment, for sure.
Embark on a nature trail on which dozens of life-size dinosaur replicas are waiting to be discovered. When conditions are just right, you might also see rabbits, lizards, roadrunners, and walking sticks lurking about in the trees.
Informational plaques beneath every creature offer insight into their diet, height and weight, and era in which they existed. Many of the specific dinosaurs featured here lived in Texas, so the scenes are truly realistic.
Other attractions include an I-Spy game that leads participants on a search for prehistoric footprints throughout the park, special photo-ops, and the chance to measure some of the longest dinosaurs in history. Talk about a fun-filled day for the whole family!
Don’t forget to stop by the gift shop on your way out! Toys, games, and souvenirs galore line hundreds of shelves, beckoning to be taken home and enjoyed by the whole family. Jurassic Park fans will rejoice at how much themed merchandise from the movie is available.
Admission is $9 for adults and teens, $8 for children, and no charge for infants under 24 months. Even your four-legged family members are allowed, provided they’re less than 30 lbs and on a leash.
