Tennessee is full of the most beautiful scenery that our country has to offer. The state's verdant, forested hills make for some of the best waterfalls in the country as well, and Foster Falls in Southeast Tennessee is no exception. The trail down to the falls offers incredible views of the natural gorge, but the real highlight of the hike is the suspension bridge over the creek. When you go, just be sure to bring your swimsuits - this is also one of the best swimming holes in the state. Check it out!
Less than an hour outside of Chattanooga, Foster Falls is the perfect secluded getaway for anyone looking to enjoy some of the most beautiful nature Tennessee has to offer.
The Falls themselves are a stunning 60-foot plunge over the cliff into the pool below. The trail down to the pool starts up here, but it's a two-mile hike to get there.
The trail takes you around the rim of the canyon but quickly drops down to the bottom where you get to cross this suspension bridge down the river from the falls.
From there, you start hiking back up to where the falls are, getting some absolutely beautiful glimpses of the cascade through the trees.
Bonus fact: Foster Falls and the rest of South Cumberland State Park are both known for their amazing rock climbing spots. So, you're sure to see some beautiful formations along the way.
Before you know it, you're there! If the water is low enough, you can safely climb behind the falls and get some incredible shots of the falls and the pool.
Overall, the hike is short and strenuous, but it's so worth it. Be sure to save some energy for the hike back out! You can park right above the falls by visiting the Foster Falls parking lot in Sequatchie at 498 Foster Falls Rd.
Before you go out on the trail, fuel up by visiting the absolute best hot dog stand in the state - you'll be glad you did.
