Tennessee is chock full of gorgeous, lush state parks - but how many have you actually explored? Many of us tend to stagnate in the Great Smoky Mountains, our most popular national park to the east, but we tend to feel that our state parks are the unsung heroes of our great southern state. It's time to explore something new, folks - we've got you covered.
Everyone seems to know about the Ocoee River - and for good reason - but have you ever spent an entire date at the Hiwassee Ocoee Scenic River State Park?
The river is known for its white water rafting sites, but the park tends to be overlooked for its beautiful, watery sister.
Rafting is popular because the river has Level I all the way to Level V rapids. You'll want to make sure you are a skilled rafter or have a fabulous guide if you're looking to make your way down the river. Even in quiet spots, rushing waterfalls tend to have their dangerous backsides.
The Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park offers stunning scenic views across its waterways as well as sloping fields and wildflower-encrusted meadows.
You can spend your days rafting, hiking, canoeing or fishing along the water. The John Muir Trail is known to twist its way through the river gorge, perfect for those of you who like to stay on land.
The Gee Creek primitive tent campground boasts almost 50 campsites, each with a table, grill and fire ring. You're right next to the Cherokee National Forest if you choose to pitch a tent, which will take your breath away with its sheer beauty.
Plus, we can't really get over views like this.
Or gorgeous hikes where you get to traverse a stream in the stunning Tennessee wilderness.
You can visit the Hiwassee/Ocoee Scenic River State Park in Delano, Tennessee, where its main address is listed at 404 Spring Creek Road. Have fun!
