There's nothing more beautiful or refreshing than a day spent in one of Tennessee's natural swimming holes. Although we've covered it before, there's nothing like a visit to Stillhouse Hollow Falls State Natural Area out in Maury County. Located just outside of historic Columbia, Tennessee, it's a true hidden gem that can't be missed during the warmer seasons. Check it out below, friends, and fall in love for yourself. This lovely waterfall is located roughly 70 miles from Nashville, Tennessee, and it's a popular natural area for hikers, rock climbers, and bird watchers.
The 90-acre state natural area is a Maury County gem that's both naturally stunning and family-friendly. The area is studded with shale-bottom streams and both large and small waterfalls, making for a beautiful and widely-varied topography.
Hikers are encouraged to take the Stillhouse Hollow Falls trail, which takes visitors 2/3 of a mile to the famed waterfall. The trail is lined with all sorts of plant species and colorful displays of wildflowers.
The trail is considered "moderate," and is great for folks of all ages. It is 1.2 miles in its entirety, and most folks utilize it for nature trips, hiking, and walking. Dogs are allowed on the Stillhouse Hollow Falls Trail but must be kept on a leash.
The pay-off after your trek? The ever-beautiful Stillhouse Hollow Falls. It rises 75 feet high, and the gushing waterfall pools into a perfectly serene swimming hole beneath.
The waterfall plunges towards the forest floor in a beautiful, natural scene. Locals love to come and cool off beneath its grandiose cascades.
