When you think of state parks, large forests, hiking trails, and wilderness might all come to mind. Getting lost in the vastness of a wonderful natural area may be a dream for many of us. Then you have one very different state park. Right in Nashville, you will find the smallest state park in Tennessee.
The Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park is only 11 acres making it the smallest state park in the state.
You will not find a large forest or waterfalls hidden in the wilderness but what you will find is a pleasant greenspace in the state's capital. The amphitheater is stunning to observe and you can even see the capital building from it.
Take a walk around the grounds to get a great history lesson on our state.
The Court of 3 Stars is an interesting addition with its 95 carillons. These huge towers house bells that play Tennessee-related songs throughout the day.
The World War II Memorial is a powerful addition honoring those who fought for our country. There is a lot to read and learn in this memorial, but you will undeniably leave with a deep appreciation for our veterans.
In the center of the memorial, you will find a stone globe resting on the water allowing you to spin the globe in any direction you desire.
One fun section of the park is a place called the Fountains of Tennesee.
Thirty-three spouts shoot water from the ground and represent the 33 rivers in our state. They positioned them from west to east to correspond to their geographical locations.
The park features many other things to enjoy like a 200-foot granite map of Tennesee to explore. There is also plenty of grass to walk and play on.
This is a very different state park than you may be used to, but we are sure you will appreciate the history and geographic education that can be found, as well as recreational activities.
The smallest state park in Tennessee may remind you more of Washington DC than a wilderness area but we think this is a great addition to our capitol. Tennesseans do a great job of really showing appreciation for our state and honoring the places we love so much. With so much care and attention put into parks like this, it is very clear to see why we love our state so much. For more information about this park please visit the Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park website.
Crave a large wilderness area away from the city? You should check out Falls Creek Falls, it is the biggest state park in Tennessee.
