Tennessee may be known as a landlocked state, but that doesn't mean there aren't any beautiful waterfalls, rivers, and lakes studded throughout. Sure, there's BBQ and rolling hills, and great fishing, but what about the beauty of a great hike up in the mountains? We made our way to the highest waterfall in the most visited national park in the United States (it's in Tennessee!), and it truly was an adventure to remember. Maybe you've been...
Ramsey Cascades is accessible by the Ramsey Cascades Trail in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park located in East Tennessee, and it's known as one of the most beautiful and intense trails in the forest.
The trail to reach the gushing waterfall is considered to be strenuous, so make sure that you've strapped on a pair of hiking boots before. You'll trek eight miles round trip, gaining more than 2,000 feet in elevation.
Did you know that some of the largest trees in the entire park are situated along the Ramsey Cascades Trail? How cool!
It's not long into your journey that you find yourself wandering through the largest section of old growth forest in the Smokies. This stretch of nature is downright jaw-dropping and almost unbelievable.
Reaching the falls is truly a mind-blowing sight, and well worth the effort through the Tennessee wilderness. The cascades are located four miles from the trailhead.
Did you know that the Ramsey Cascades is also the tallest waterfall in the park? The tiered rocks make the gushing water even more stunning and picturesque.
Make sure that you use caution when you're wandering the falls. The rocks are slippery, and there have been multiple deaths in the area due to water-related accidents. Just make sure your footing is solid and always stay aware of your surroundings.
