Chasing waterfalls is something that every nature lover finds themselves doing from time to time. You may be looking for the tallest waterfall in your area or the most beautiful one. Falls were not all created equal; each one has something unique and special to bring to the viewer. Hiking long miles to get to some of these natural wonders will always be worth the journey, but then there are others that are very easy to get to. One waterfall in the Smokies you can drive up to with no hiking required is a must-see for anyone adventuring in Tennseesee’s national park.
The Sinks are located in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
This is one of the most visited waterfalls in the Great Smoky Mountains because it is so accessible. You will even drive over it when you are traveling on the Little River Gorge Road.
There is a small parking area and an overlook of The Sinks just a few short steps from the parking lot on a paved path.
This will give you a great view of the falls, but you can explore the surrounding area to get just the right angle for your photo.
As natural as The Sinks may look, it was actually created by explosions. When loggers had a large jam on the Little River, they blew it up with dynamite, creating this wonderful little waterfall we see today.
Down the river is a tranquil and calm place to visit as well. The river will flow from the falls and downstream, creating a beautiful place to sit on the rocks and watch the water.
The waterfall flows into three distinct falls among the jagged rocks that split the water. This creates a very interesting and unique fall that is quite a find in the Great Smoky Mountains.
Well looking for waterfalls in the Smokies make sure that The Sinks are on your list. It’s easy to get to and beautiful to see. It makes for a great extra stop while traveling to or from Cades Cove as well. So make sure you spend a quick second exploring The Sinks in the Smokies.
