Tucked away high in the mountains of Tennessee is a rural hiking destination that's garnered quite a reputation for itself. LeConte Lodge is known for boasting a large waitlist and some of the most incredible views in the park due to its remote location. It's the perfect spot for any outdoorsy person to visit, and we have a feeling you just might want to pack your bags once you look into it...if you're a hiker seeking some kind of respite from your day-to-day, then you don't want to skip out on this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Let's head to LeConte Lodge, folks!
High in the Great Smoky Mountains atop Mount LeConte, you'll find the little-known LeConte Lodge. Once a tent camp, the lodge area predates the establishment of the national park itself.
LeConte Lodge is only accessible by hike, and it's become known as a true hiking destination for outdoorsy folk. There are, however, five trails that provide access to the remote rural location.
Alum Cave Trail is perhaps the most popular of the trails, coming in at just under 9 miles for hikers. Bullhead Trail, Boulevard Trail, Trillium Gap Trail, and Rainbow Falls Trail also provide access.
You can hike to the LeConte Lodge during the warmer months, and you can also submit a waitlist form if you'd like to stay overnight in the remote spot. You can reserve nights in the old-school cabins and enjoy a hot dinner once you arrive. How does that food get there, you wonder? Llamas (yes, it's true!) trek supplies up the mountain three times a week.
Dinner, breakfast, and sack lunches are provided for overnight guests for $13, and if you're just hiking in for the day you can also snag a sack lunch. You can book a cabin or lodge room if you make it off the waitlist, making a trip to LeConte Lodge truly one to remember.
Booking information changes yearly, so make sure you contact the team at LeConte Lodge to figure out exactly how you can plan a trip that's right for you. LeConte Lodge is open seasonally from March to November, with exact dates available on its official website.
