Beautiful, awe-inducing, and perfect for little ones, this exhibit is one for all ages and great for a family adventure. If you're ever in Memphis, it's a must-visit. So if you are ready to embark upon a magical journey through this butterfly garden in Tennessee, read on to find out all of the details before you see this wonderful attraction for yourself.
The Memphis Zoo can be found tucked away in the heart of Midtown Memphis, and it's home to over 3,500 animals. There are over 500 species represented throughout the zoo! Located in Overton Park, it has been serving the local community since 1906. This is a very popular zoo and for good reason. You can enjoy a wide range of animal habitats and witness some amazing creatures we would never be able to see in the wild in Tennessee.
We understand the obsession with exotic animals, but the Butterfly Garden is well worth a visit, especially if you're traveling with little ones. The butterfly exhibit is called Metamorphosis: The Butterfly Effect and is a seasonal attraction. The doors open in May and will close again for the season around October. So you have a big window to plan a trip to see these fluttering creatures.
Even though the attraction is open for several months the best time to visit is August and early September, but visiting at any point during the year is highly recommended. Here's an interesting fact: butterflies are at the peak of their life cycle in late summer!
You'll find all sorts of literature describing the types of butterflies found in the exhibit. Whether you're looking for the ever-popular monarch butterfly or swallowtails, they're here and ready to meet you.
The interactive exhibit allows you to walk through a garden of flowers and wait for butterflies to land on your shoulders or finger, perhaps you can even find a butterfly camouflaging itself under a leaf. Have you ever been to a butterfly garden before? The experience is magical as these small delicate creatures flutter around and expand their beautiful wings. There is something enchanting about being in a space filled with hundreds of butterflies majestically floating from branch to branch.
The colors and patterns on the wings of the many butterflies you will see in the enclosure are fascinating. Getting a chance to see so many species up close and personal is a rare gift so we would highly recommend this experience.
