Among all of the natural beauty in Tennessee, the waterfalls on the Natchez Trace Parkway are some of the best. There is a lot to love about our waterfalls in Tennessee, and since I live here I know I'm biased, but it is tough to deny we have some gorgeous cascades. Today I want to shine a light on a short-and-sweet waterfall hike in Tennessee that leads to not one, but two, lovely little falls. Lace up your hiking boots and get ready to explore the Fall Hollow Falls Trail.
The Natchez Trace Parkway is a long and windy road that's essentially a metaphor for the Tennessee way of thinking: it is slower, peaceful, and meant to be enjoyed with your loved ones. The whole expanse of this scenic drive takes you through beautiful natural areas of middle Tennessee filled with hiking trails, history, and waterfalls.
The trailhead for Fall Hollow Falls is found right along the Natchez Trace and is a short and simple hike. The whole hike is an out-and-back trip with only 39 feet of elevation gain and all just over a quarter mile. Getting down to the base of the waterfall can be slippery when wet, but if you take your time and wear good hiking shoes you should have no problem getting down to the base.
There are two waterfalls on this short little trail and although they are not huge like some other grand waterfalls in Middle Tennessee, they hold a beauty all on their own. One of them you can walk behind which is always a magical experience.
The steady wall of trickling water makes for a great backdrop to just sit and enjoy the waterfall for a moment. The sound of flowing water is such a tranquil experience I will never get over no matter how many waterfalls I hike to.
The other waterfall isn’t a curtain of falling water as much as it is like a blanket strewn across your favorite old rocking chair. The water will find its way down the step ledges and fall over several sections.
This is also a great place to stop while on your scenic drive to not just enjoy a chance to stretch out your legs but to take a break under the flowing water. Bring a snack or just read a book with the serenity of the waterfall serenading you in the background.
When you are looking for points of interest on your drive, these waterfalls on the Natchez Trace Parkway are a must-see. Fall Hollow Falls is a short and accessible hike, but even on small walks I always make sure I have my AllTrails app with me. Download the map for Fall Hollow Falls before you go and enjoy this little slice of waterfall paradise.
Of course, I think an important part of a good road trip is the snacks you can munch on along the way, so make sure you have some good picks with our list of the best road trip snacks.
