Edward’s Point Trail is a sum of all things kind of hike. The waterfall is beautiful, but more than that, you will find many things to enjoy along the way. That is how I like my hikes: the kinds of adventures where the journey is as lovely as the destination. I am pretty content with a leisurely stroll through the forest if at the end I get to some grand overlook or waterfall, but to have a trail that is fun the whole way is a win all the way around. So let's strap on those hiking boots for another amazing Tennessee hike.
This hike is located just outside of Chattanooga and represents everything there is to love about the area all in one trail. After hiking many of the trails in the area I can tell you it is ripe with lush overgrowth, towering rock walls, interesting rock formations, and gorgeous overlooks.
One of the best parts of the hike of course is the waterfall. The manmade structure creates the perfect ledge for the water to flow. The plunging water reminds me of a rippling curtain in an open window swaying in the summer breeze.
The pool of water is an inviting treat on a warm day. Take off your shoes and dip your toes in the cooling water or rest for a while to soak in the view. As great as the waterfall is, however, there are still plenty of amazing adventures to find along the trail.
I love a good suspension bridge and this trail has a long swinging one right over the churning water. I enjoy these types of bridges because they add a sense of adventure along the way. Channel your inner Indiana Jones as you bounce and sway your way across. If you have ever been to Foster Falls in the nearby area then you will be familiar with these types of structures.
The Chattanooga area is home to many intriguing rock formations and this trail is no exception. Along the way you will pass a natural arch and in a way, it reminds me of the Sewanee Natural Bridge, albeit much smaller. I do find it interesting how many of the trails in certain regions have such similar formations -- they're so fun to spot while you hike.
The end of the trail leads to Edward’s Point. This ledge allows hikers the opportunity to feast their eyes on the grand and wonderful Tennessee River Gorge. Ogle the overlook of the Tennessee River and relax as the sprawling beauty of the landscape drains all your worries away.
Edward’s Point Trail reminds me in a way of Snooper Rock. It is a marvelous hike filled with rock formations, a waterfall, a swinging bridge, and ends at a gorgeous overlook. If you are looking for an adventurous trail then this one checks all the boxes. Make sure you have your AllTrails app handy and download the Edward’s Point Trail map so you can track your progress on the hike. Happy trails y’all!
