If you hail from the Mount Rushmore State or have ever picked up an American history book, you know that South Dakota has a colorful wild west past that was as exciting as it was dangerous. While South Dakota is now a much safer place to live, you may wish that you could have experienced the excitement of the 1800s firsthand, which - surprise! - you can now do at the new Outlaw Square:
Located in Deadwood, the new Outlaw Square is a first-of-its-kind attraction that combines Wild West history with modern-day fun.
Billed as being a "new frontier into the wild west of Deadwood's iconic entertainment, adventure, and relaxation," Outlaw Square is located at the corners of Deadwood and Main Streets inside the historic City Hall and Deadwood Theater, which add to the attraction's charm and ambiance.
What is there to see and do at the Outlaw Square? To begin, there are historical re-enactments, Main Street shoot outs (don't worry - they are just pretend!), and stagecoach rides...
...Ice skating...
...Festivals, farmers' markets, and other special events.
For a full list of these special events and festivals - including Wild Bill Days, Outlaw 2020 Ultra Marathon, and Deadwood Jam - please visit Outlaw Square's website.
Outlaw Square is open year-round, with historical re-enactments, stagecoach rides, and shootouts taking place every day during the summer.
