Lake Herman was formed thousands of years ago as glacial ice melted. Now it's the perfect spot to spend the day - or stay overnight. There's plenty to see and do here, so make plans to visit with your friends and family soon.
Lake Herman State Park is located about an hour north of Sioux Falls. The park situated on a peninsula that juts right out into the lake.
In addition to some gorgeous lake views, there's lots to do here.
Stop to smell the (wild)flowers.
Take a hike on the Luce Adventure Trail. It loops around the lake and past Herman Luce's historic cabin for a total of 1.25 miles.
The park is stunning in the winter, too. Ice fishing, anyone?
You'll find plenty of trees here, so it's a nice spot on a warm, sunny day.
Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy eating out in South Dakota's beautiful natural surroundings.
Spend some time fishing. It's the best kind of bonding! You might hook a walleye, bass or bullhead.
Get out on the lake in a canoe or kayak. The park rents both.
Say hello to the geese.
Laze around all afternoon on the lake.
As the sun sets, you're not going to want to pack up and leave.
Luckily, you don't have to leave! Stay overnight in the campground. You'll find 70 campsites here with flush toilets, showers and electricity.
The park also has a cabin, which sleeps 4-5 people and comes equipped with electricity, heating and air-conditioning.
