South Carolina's newest state park entity is a gorgeous barrier island located just to the south of Hunting Island State Park. (You may recall in late 2017 when South Carolina negotiated with Ted Turner to purchase his private island.) While still in the planning stages regarding widespread public access and the overall designated uses for the park, several upcoming dates to take a small, ranger-led tour of the newest state park in the Palmetto State have been released and, although a bit pricey, this tour is one you may not be able to pass up.
Think about the kind of private island media mogul Ted Turner would purchase and you'll soon have an image of all this gorgeous island has to offer: unique beaches, maritime forests, and an unspoiled spot in paradise.
The island is only accessible by boat. On the ranger-led tour, visitors to the island will depart Hunting Island State Park and travel by way of a 30-minute ferry ride to the island.
From there, you'll board a tram that will take you to various points of interest, all the while, gaining exclusive insight from your ranger host.
The six-hour adventure includes a stop on one of the gorgeous white sand beaches, because, what trip to paradise would be complete without a stop at the beach?
And then you'll board the tram and head over to the former vacation home of Ted Turner and his family...
... where you'll enjoy a relaxing lunch and explore around the Turner home. Sounds to us like it will be pretty close to a perfect day!
You should know that space is limited on each tour date, and the April dates are already sold out.See more of the island in this YouTube video from user The County Channel recorded a few short months after the island was acquired from Ted Turner:
Space is limited, and the April dates are already sold out! So don't hesitate to purchase your spot online at this link on the official website of South Carolina State Parks!
