It's no secret that summer in the South usually brings warmer weather than in the country's northern areas, and we certainly understand this all too well in South Carolina. Granted, some summers are hotter for longer periods than others, and a fun summer fact is that the hottest temperature recorded for South Carolina was 113°F on June 29, 2012. No, thank you! But when those hotter temperatures do arrive, one of the best ways to stay cool is by enjoying water activities. And Saluda Shoals Park in South Carolina offers the coolest splash pad, a kayak launch, and more, making it a perfect summer day trip destination.
Located on Bush River Road along the banks of the beautiful Saluda River, Saluda Shoals Park covers 480 acres and offers an array of impressive amenities. Enjoy the river from an observation deck, two boat ramps, or the canoe/kayak launch.
Or you can always just wade through and play in the Saluda River!
The Saluda Splash Water Playground at this summer day trip destination in South Carolina is a zero-depth spray ground for children. Both the river and the splash pad provide the perfect reprieve from summer heat.
Ten miles of paved and unpaved hiking trails wind throughout the park. The Saluda Shoals Trail encompasses three-and-a-half miles and runs alongside the river with pretty views.
You'll also get to enjoy incredible sculpture art along the trails, including the Silver Hands Fish, created by Bob Doster, a nationally acclaimed artist who worked with elementary school children from Lexington-Richland Five as part of a grant program. Each scale on the sculpture is a fish designed by a student.
Another fun feature of Saluda Shoals Park in South Carolina is Leo's Landing Inclusive Playground, a magical spot featuring a hammock park, three charming playhouses, the beautiful Lollie Tree, and a Little Free Library. Your kids may not want to leave!

Also at this fun park are a 10,000-square-foot conference facility, educational spaces, a wedding gazebo, picnic shelters, and a wetlands preserve. At Christmas, the park offers an incredible lights show, Holiday Lights on the River.
So pack a picnic lunch (bring along a picnic mat in case the tables are all full!) and head to Saluda Shoals Park for a day of summer fun!
