Most train enthusiasts know that South Carolina's only recreational full-size train is found at the South Carolina Railroad Museum in Winnsboro. But that same lot of people probably aren't aware of the smaller, scale replica ride-aboard train found in this park in the Palmetto State.
The small steam engine-like locomotive and its passenger cars run on train tracks around the perimeter of Heritage Park in Simpsonville.
On the weekends from March to early December you can buy a ticket for just $2.00 and children under the age of 2 are free. Adults can ride too! What could be more fun?
Heritage Park is home to many events at their signature amphitheater that, in 2018, will host many headliners including Foreigner and The Charlie Daniels Band. But it's the train that steals the show in this upstate recreational complex that also has several ball fields and at least two playgrounds for the little ones.
To see the train in action during this past Halloween, watch this short video from YouTube user The Stineharts:
The Heritage Park train is open seasonally from March through early December. It's already closed for the season this year, but you can ride it in just three short months.
Heritage Park is located at 861 SE Main Street, Simpsonville, SC. For more information on the train and opening day for 2018, we suggest you follow the Simpsonville, SC Facebook Page or on the city's Heritage Park train page.
