Perhaps the most famous urban waterfall in the South, Reedy River Falls is a natural wonder that, thanks to the City of Greenville, everyone can enjoy and appreciate to the fullest. Once an urban eyesore (and worse), a little more than 15 short years ago, the falls were hidden by a highway and decades of overgrown foliage. Today, however, this urban oasis draws many locals and visitors alike to downtown Greenville and to the 32-acre park that's become a nature lover's paradise and is the perfect place to see South Carolina in the fall. Welcome to Reedy River Falls in South Carolina.
Although beautiful in every season, visitors who time a visit to coincide with the arrival of autumn colors are never disappointed.
Reedy River Falls is located in Falls Park on the Reedy, a spellbinding oasis located at the end of Main Street in downtown Greenville.
The park includes a number of walking paths that take visitors down into the basin of the park and along the Reedy River as it spills over the massive waterfall and flows downstream.
Soon, the trees on the rim of that basin - as well as those along the trails within the park - will begin to turn to rusty reds and bright oranges and yellows as the peak of the fall season settles in for a few weeks.
Each year, the website smokymountains.com releases a fall foliage predictor map for the entire U.S.
The predictions for peak fall foliage at the Reedy River Falls is between November 1 and November 15.
One of the best features of Falls Park on the Reedy is Liberty Bridge, an arched pedestrian bridge measuring 345 feet and spanning 200 feet over the falls. From here, visitors have a breathtaking view of the falls and the foliage.
The view from Liberty Bridge (seen here) is like floating over the waterfall.
